Mother’s Day Jewelry: A sparkling tradition

According to the National Retail Federation, Americans will spend about $4.6 billion on jewelry this Mother’s Day. Because what says “love” more than a sparkly bauble or memory-making necklace?

I’ve got suggestions for you, whether you’re on the giving or receiving side. And if you’re on the receiving side, by all means, drop big hints!

Traditional gifts for a mother or grandmother

Birthstone jewelry: When you think of a jewelry gift for a mother, the first one that comes to mind is something with a birthstone for each child or grandchild. Available as necklaces, rings, or pins, you can order these online or through almost any jewelry store.

Engraved pieces: Similar to the birthstone jewelry, you can have each child’s/grandchild’s name and/or birthdate engraved on charms.

Lockets: Nothing says “love” like a locket—and you can put pictures inside (of a child or of mom and dad) for extra-added “awwww…” Let her wear her loved ones next to her heart.

Tips for buying Mother’s Day jewelry

  • See what her taste in jewelry is. If she’s into delicate pieces, don’t invest in a massive tree brooch with large birthstones.
  • Make it personal—consider an inscription of a date or personal message.
  • Make it sophisticated enough for her…no little kittens (unless she loves cats!).
  • New mom? How about earrings that she can wear and not worry about sharp edges around the baby.

If you’re a mom or grandmother…

Why not take a beloved piece of your own and pass it along to your daughter, daughter-in-law, or granddaughter? It’ll be such a meaningful gift—whether they’re a mother or not. And write a little note to go along with it, telling them why it meant so much to you.

Non-traditional Mother’s Day gifts

  • Here’s one that is unusual but SO useful—raid your mom’s or grandmother’s jewelry box. If there’s a piece that’s broken, have it repaired. Then you can give it back to them in perfect condition.
  • For the woman who has lots of jewelry: Give her an appraisal giftcard so that she can have her collection catalogued and recorded. This is a great give to give along with a special piece of jewelry, too! Contact me and I can help you with all of your appraisal needs.

Moms do so much for us…this Mother’s Day, give yours something special to show how much she means to you. And if that gift sparkles, so much the better!!

Memorably yours, Aimee
